Training of Good Construction Practices and Strengthening of Brick Walls to Increase Earthquake Resistance
Masons in the earthquake prone area of West Sumatra, Indonesia will now benefit from a low-cost technique to build earthquake resilient buildings in their community. Improving the resilience of buildings will give people more time to move to safety, thus saving lives if an earthquake strikes. The training, co-funded by the foundation and the Lien Institute For the Environment, will teach 65 master builders and masons over a 6-month period.
Working in partnership with Universitas Andalas Padang, a polyclinic in Lasi Sub-District was chosen as the training facility to showcase as a model building for other builders to emulate.
The initial batch of trainees will eventually share their knowledge with fellow masons to benefit the West Sumatra province and beyond.
